What We Do

What Does Our Iron Infusion Team Do?

Our team supports you through assessment, pre-infusion checks and your treatment visit, with clear communication and documentation for your GP. We focus on making the process straightforward whether you are new to IV iron or returning for a planned course.

GP-supervised IV iron therapy

Full medical oversight with trained nursing staff, appropriate screening before treatment, and access to your doctor when clinical questions arise.

Nurse-led infusion care

Calm, professional delivery with monitoring during and after your infusion, and practical advice on what to expect in the days that follow.

Pre-infusion assessment

We confirm indications, allergies, medicines and any recent blood results so treatment is planned safely and you understand each step before you start.

Integrated primary care hub

With GPs, pathology and related services on-site, follow-up blood tests and care coordination can be simpler when clinically appropriate.

What Is Iron Deficiency Anaemia?

Iron deficiency anaemia develops when your body does not have enough iron to make healthy red blood cells. Causes can include low dietary intake, blood loss, pregnancy or difficulty absorbing iron. Your doctor may recommend tablets first; when oral iron is not tolerated or effective, intravenous iron can be a suitable option after appropriate assessment.

At 1st Health Hub we offer iron infusion therapy in Melbourne with appointments available seven days a week so you can plan care around work and family.

If you have recent blood tests or a letter from your specialist or GP, bring them to your visit. Our team will explain timing, consent and any out-of-pocket costs before treatment proceeds.

Do I need a referral for an iron infusion?

Often your GP or specialist will arrange iron studies and outline a treatment plan. Bring any letters or results you have. If you are unsure what is required, call us and we can guide you on what to bring before you attend.

Timing depends on the product, dose and your clinical plan, plus the observation period after the infusion. We will give you a realistic estimate at booking and on the day so you can arrange work, childcare or transport.

When appropriately selected and monitored, intravenous iron is an established treatment. Like any medicine it has risks; we discuss these with you, obtain informed consent, and explain when to seek urgent care for unexpected symptoms.

Some people notice improved energy over days to weeks as iron stores rebuild. Others need more than one infusion or ongoing management of the underlying cause. Your doctor may arrange follow-up blood tests to confirm your response.

Many people feel well enough to drive. If you feel faint, dizzy or unwell, do not drive until you feel normal. Follow the advice given after your infusion and seek help if symptoms persist or worsen.

Book online or call 0469 091 413 and let us know you are enquiring about an iron infusion. Have your Medicare details ready and mention any recent blood tests, letters or allergies so we can triage your booking efficiently.

Bring your Medicare card, photo ID, relevant blood results or letters, a list of current medicines and allergies, and wear clothing that allows comfortable access to your arm. If you are unsure, ask our team when you book.

Often yes, subject to availability. Same-building GP access can help if prescriptions need updating, results need reviewing, or you become unwell during your visit.
