— What We Do

What Does a Physiotherapist Do?

Our experienced physiotherapists assess, diagnose and treat a wide range of physical conditions affecting movement, function and quality of life. Using hands-on therapy, targeted exercise prescription and patient education, we identify the root cause of your pain or limitation — not just the symptoms — and build a personalised treatment plan designed to get you moving freely and confidently again.

Hands-On Manual Therapy

Joint mobilisation, soft tissue massage, dry needling and targeted manipulation techniques to relieve pain, restore mobility and improve the way your body moves and feels.

Injury Assessment and Diagnosis

Thorough clinical assessment of your injury, movement patterns and physical history to accurately identify the cause of your pain and design the most effective treatment pathway.

Rehabilitation and Exercise Programs

Personalised exercise programs for post-surgical recovery, sports rehabilitation and chronic pain management — progressive, practical and built around your recovery goals and daily routine.

Medicare and WorkCover Rebates Available

Eligible patients can access Medicare rebates through a GP Chronic Disease Management Plan. We also accept WorkCover, TAC and DVA claims. Our team helps you understand and access your entitlements from your very first visit.

What Is Physiotherapy?

Physiotherapy is an evidence-based healthcare discipline focused on restoring and maintaining physical movement, function and quality of life. Physiotherapists are university-trained, AHPRA-registered health professionals qualified to assess, diagnose and treat a broad range of musculoskeletal, neurological, cardiorespiratory and sports-related conditions. Whether you are recovering from surgery, managing a chronic pain condition or dealing with a sudden injury, physiotherapy provides a structured, clinical pathway back to full function.

At 1st Health Hub in Melbourne, our physiotherapists take a whole-body approach to your care. We look beyond the site of pain to understand the underlying mechanical, postural and lifestyle factors contributing to your condition. Every treatment plan combines hands-on therapy with targeted exercise and clear education — so you not only recover faster but understand your body better and reduce the risk of re-injury going forward.

As part of our fully integrated health centre, our physiotherapists work directly alongside GPs, exercise physiologists, podiatrists, dietitians and psychologists. This collaborative model means your physical recovery is supported across every dimension of your health — from managing inflammation and pain through to building the strength, fitness and mental resilience needed to get back to doing what you love.

Headaches and Jaw Pain

Cervicogenic headaches, tension headaches and temporomandibular joint (TMJ) dysfunction often have a musculoskeletal origin. Our physiotherapists provide targeted manual therapy and exercise to address the source and provide meaningful, lasting relief.

Still Have Questions

Our team is happy to help. Give us a call or send us a message and we will get back to you promptly.

Do I need a GP referral to see a physiotherapist?

No, you do not need a referral to book directly with one of our physiotherapists. You can contact us and book an appointment at any time. However, if your GP creates a Chronic Disease Management Plan, you may be eligible for Medicare rebates on up to five allied health visits per year. Our on-site GPs can arrange this for you in the same visit.

This depends on the nature and severity of your condition, your overall health and how your body responds to treatment. Acute injuries may resolve in three to six sessions, while chronic or post-surgical conditions may require a longer program. Your physiotherapist will provide a clear, realistic estimate at your initial assessment and review this regularly as you progress.

We recommend wearing or bringing comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that allows easy access to the area being treated. For lower limb conditions, shorts are ideal. For shoulder or upper back issues, a singlet or loose top works well. Our team will always explain what is needed before and during your appointment.

Some treatment techniques, particularly deep tissue massage or mobilisation of stiff joints, may cause mild discomfort during or after a session. Our physiotherapists always work within your comfort level, explain what they are doing and adjust their approach based on your feedback. Any post-treatment soreness is typically short-lived and a normal part of the recovery process.

Yes. We accept WorkCover, TAC and DVA claims. Please let us know at the time of booking so we can prepare the necessary paperwork and ensure your claim is processed correctly from your very first appointment.

Yes. Our physiotherapists are experienced in managing persistent pain conditions using a biopsychosocial approach — addressing the physical, psychological and lifestyle factors that contribute to chronic pain. Where appropriate, we work alongside our psychology and exercise physiology teams at 1st Health Hub to provide truly integrated chronic pain management.

Most private health extras policies include physiotherapy cover. The amount reimbursed depends on your individual fund and level of cover. We process all major health fund claims on-site using HICAPS, meaning you only pay the gap on the day of your appointment.

Yes. With our GPs and physiotherapists working under the same roof, you can book both appointments in a single visit. This is particularly convenient if you need imaging, a referral or a Chronic Disease Management Plan from your GP before or after your physiotherapy session.
