What We Do
What Does a Psychologist Do?
Our psychologists listen closely and use structured, evidence-informed approaches to help you make sense of what you are experiencing. Sessions focus on clear goals, whether that is reducing anxiety, improving sleep and energy, navigating stress, processing difficult life events, or building healthier habits and relationships, with practical strategies you can use between appointments.
Assessment and personalised planning
A thorough start to understand your history, symptoms, strengths and priorities, so recommendations are specific to you, not generic advice.
Evidence-based talking therapies
Care guided by approaches shown to help common concerns (including CBT-style skills for worry and low mood), adapted to your preferences and clinical needs.
Skills for everyday life
Practical tools for regulating emotions, managing rumination, improving communication, setting boundaries, and responding to triggers in ways that support your wellbeing.
Integrated care at 1st Health Hub
When helpful, we coordinate with your GP and other clinicians onsite, especially for sleep, stress, chronic pain and overall health, so your support lines up across your care team.
What Is Psychology?
Psychology is a clinical and scientific discipline focused on how people think, feel and behave, and how to support change when life becomes hard to manage alone. In Australia, psychologists are highly trained professionals who use structured assessment and therapy to help with a wide range of emotional and behavioural difficulties, within ethical, evidence-based practice.
At 1st Health Hub in Melbourne, we take a collaborative approach: we work with you to clarify what better looks like, then build a plan that fits your lifestyle and responsibilities. Psychology is not about positive thinking alone, it is about understanding patterns, reducing unhelpful cycles, and building skills that last.
Where helpful, we connect your mental health care with medical and allied health support onsite, so your treatment reflects the whole picture, not just the symptoms on the surface.

We Help With a Wide Range of
Mental Health Concerns
Anxiety, worry and panic
Support for persistent worry, racing thoughts, physical anxiety symptoms, avoidance and panic, using practical skills to reduce intensity and regain confidence in daily situations.
Low mood, stress and burnout
Help when motivation drops, everything feels heavier, or long-term pressure has worn you down, rebuilding energy, boundaries, routines and perspective step by step.
Sleep, energy and concentration

Guidance through change, career shifts, parenting stress, grief and loss, or ongoing conflict, so decisions and communication feel clearer and less overwhelming.
Confidence and self-esteem
Work on self-criticism, perfectionism, fear of judgment or performance pressure, with strategies to build steadier self-worth and consistent follow-through.
Chronic conditions and pain
When emotional health and physical symptoms interact, we support psychological approaches that complement medical care, including alongside our integrated team when appropriate.
How It Works
Your Path to
Wellbeing in 4 Steps
Starting psychology at 1st Health Hub is straightforward. Here is what to expect from your first appointment through to steady progress, so you always know the purpose of each session and what you are working toward next.
Book Your Appointment
Book online or call us on 0469 091 413. You do not need a referral to make an initial booking, though a GP Mental Health Treatment Plan may help with Medicare rebates for eligible patients. Share your main concern so we can match appointment length and clinician fit.
Initial Consultation
Your psychologist explores what you are experiencing, your history and your goals. You will agree on priorities, confidentiality and a practical direction for care, and you can ask questions and set the pace.
Skills, strategies and review
Sessions combine conversation with structured tools: tracking patterns, practising new responses, and troubleshooting real situations between appointments. Your plan evolves as you improve.
Progress and next steps
As symptoms ease and skills strengthen, sessions may space out. When you are ready to finish active treatment, we focus on maintenance habits and clear next steps so gains are easier to sustain.
Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently Asked Questions About Psychology at 1st Health Hub
Everything you need to know before your first appointment.
Our team is happy to help. Give us a call or send us a message and we will get back to you promptly.
Do I need a referral to see a psychologist?
You can book directly without a referral. If you are eligible, a GP Mental Health Treatment Plan can provide Medicare rebates for a set number of sessions per calendar year. Your GP can confirm eligibility and paperwork.
What happens in the first session?
We focus on understanding your situation, your goals and any safety considerations. You will learn how sessions work, what confidentiality means in practice, and what a realistic plan looks like for you.
How many sessions will I need?
It depends on your goals, severity and how consistently you can practise strategies between sessions. Some people feel meaningful improvement within a handful of sessions; others prefer longer support. Your psychologist will review progress with you openly.
Is psychology confidential?
Yes, confidentiality is central to psychological practice, with standard legal exceptions your psychologist will explain (for example risk of serious harm). Ask any privacy questions you have in your first visit.
Can I use private health insurance for psychology?
Many extras policies include psychology, depending on your fund and level of cover. Bring your card and we can help you understand on-the-day claiming where available.
Do you help with anxiety and panic?
Yes. Anxiety and panic are common reasons people seek psychology. Care typically focuses on understanding triggers, reducing avoidance and building skills that reduce intensity and frequency over time.
Can psychology help if I have physical health concerns too?
Often, yes, especially when stress, sleep, mood and pain interact. Being in an integrated health hub means your care can align with GP and allied health support when appropriate.
Can I see a psychologist and a GP on the same day?
In many cases, yes, subject to availability. This can be convenient if you need plan paperwork, medication review or coordinated care alongside therapy.
